it's the wonders of the brain. I'm (re)reading through BD: Banners Flying, and at the bottom of chapter 8, after they load Ginger's stuff into the ambulance, they turn on the overhead red and blue flashers.
At least for as long as I can remember, and at least down here (Maryland), ambulance and fire are red and white; police are red and blue, or red/blue/white. So before I posted here, I also went to the ever-popular Wiki... which did not seem to be conclusive.
Is there much variation in emergency vehicle lighting? Either in time or geography?

we used to be red and white but it seems some vision issues have led to the addition of blue to emergency vehicles here in Ontario. Used to be only snow vehicles had blue.

In the UK emergancy vehicals have blue flashing lights. Red is rear lights only.

Which explains why Canadian visitors to the UK don't recognize British police cars as police vehicles, thinking them to be lightweight, bladeless snow plows instead.
