Which way to the fire?

I was re-reading "The Birdwatcher Hill Fire" and I was unclear on the direction of the approach road into the fire that Randy graded out. It seems like in chapters 7 and 9 that the approach road comes in on the east side of the fire
However, in other places it seems like the approach road is coming in from the west.
There may be a few other places, but you get the idea.
- "It took a few minutes of messing around with radios and sirens before the two grass rigs were together again on the west side of the fire..."
This was when the first two brush trucks went around to assess the fire. If they met on the west side, that would seem to indicate that they came in on the east side. - "The leading edge of the fire is over there, buried in the smoke, a little to the right of the direct line to the fire."
This is where Clint Bork is pointing out the fire to the assembled crew just after the grader cut the approach road. Since the fire is burning northward at this point, for the leading edge to be to the right of the center of the fire, Clint must be facing west and thus is on the east side of the fire. - "By now, the grader was south of the fire, cutting the fire line to the west, and getting set to turn the corner and head back to the north on the far side. "
However, in other places it seems like the approach road is coming in from the west.
- For the approach road to cross the North Country trail between the fire and Turtle Hill, it would have to come east from CR919 on the way to the fire.
- “Clear on that,” Clint told him. “The grader is northbound on the east side of the fire. We’re trying to figure out a way for him to contact the wet line.”
- "Since they were the first grass truck to come away from the anchor point on the wet line, Mike decided that they’d better get around and see what was happening on the back side of the fire, the east side, where the wind was blowing from the fire across the fire line to some degree."
There may be a few other places, but you get the idea.
