When viewed from the right-hand side of the pond, those towns that he invented are far more real (and interesting) than somewhere called "Chicago" or "Detroit". His fictional towns are much more real in his stories, yes, but then in the stories you don't read anything of those towns of Chicago and Detroit other than the names. There's a little of Flagstaff Arizona (mighty little), and a little more of Toledo Ohio (because he lived close enough to it to have been there), but not much about anywhere else that's "real." Maybe some others, but not many. Thanks, Sam, Not Wes

I want to echo Jon, Sam, and a lot of others. First, I am also immensely saddened that, as do all things, Wes's stories have come to an end. Of course, we knew that this day would inevitably come after Wes's death...but the efforts of a lot of people were successful in pushing this day off for a number of years. I too need to thank the Family of Wes Boyd for their permission and active support in continuing these stories as long as possible. "Not Wes" deserves a bunch of credit and thanks as well for his (?) unflagging labours in editing and posting. All those other folks in the background, whose names I know not, also have my deepest respect and gratitude.
Spearfish Lake has been an "escape" of mine for many many years. My ex-wife used to call Wes's stories my "comfort words", and she was certainly right about that.
It's a bittersweet moment, reaching the end of this "journey".... but I'm glad that I was able to read and share these tales. It's funny, living in a small rural town myself, I see similar folks and experiences in real life, that also show up in SLT. Human nature at it's best, I suppose.
As funds allow, I intend to start getting the LuLu hard copies of each of Wes's books "for posterity's sake". Also to give some support to Wes's family as a way to say thanks.
RIP to one of the better authors, that most of the world sadly never knew. Thanks for sharing your creations with us all, Wes.
Best Jase

Thank you to Not Wes and everyone else. I first discovered Wes when Snowplow Extra was posted on StoriesOnline, apparently that was 2007, and I've been following on from there ever since - almost 15 years worth of literature. I'll be back for Prarie Skies but before then I'm going to read Rocinate, which I never did earlier on for reasons I don't remember, and have been intentionally putting off until this moment since learning of Wes' death. The only question is whether I'll be able to pace myself to just 2 chapters a week! Chris The answer to that question was very much no. I did at first, but that resolve didn't last long and then I started re-reading the other books. One of the books, one of the Dawn Waker novels I think, I read start to finish in about 5 hours, while others took longer. Almost six months later I've finished the whole set again and I'm only sorry that there can be no more to come and we'll never know what happened to all the characters we met and loved.

The Rev. Nanci series is the one I most wanted to see finished, as it was sort of "left hanging". Full Sails.. well it would be the start of another adventure and I'm happy with the way it ended.
God Bless you all for seeing Wes's work completed, and God Bless you Wes for the comfort and inspiration you have given me.
Norm.
