In Winchester Harbor we hear that John Hufnagel is dating Karen. I cannot find Karen's surname in that story.
Can anyone tell me the source for Karen's suername?
Did Wes provide a cast list for Winchester Harbor which includes this surname?
I'd like to reference a source for the surname when creating a wiki page for Karen because I cannot find it in the book.

A search through the text of all the books shows no hits for 'Brandt'

Anthony,
I've checked the earliest copies of Winchester Harbor files I have from Wes for editing and find no cast list included. A search for the name Brandt (searched for "bran") found nothing in Winchester Harbor or Blanche Tickle Girl. I'd say that Van Brandt is a mistake for Karen's surname and none is given. I didn't search other books yet.

I did a site search of www.spearfishlaketales.com and didn't get any hits for "brandt". I have one name with email address which may be the person who put the surname on the wiki so will try there. Without any better information I'll simply note that the surname isn't mentioned in the book and I don't know the source.

PS A site search for 'Karen' reveals a likely typo in Growing Together chapter 11 referring to Karin. I only mention it for consideration in any future edits of Growing Together.

Karin first pops up in chapter 1 of Dawnwalker.

Wes used a ton of non-standard name spellings; Karin is Crystal's mother, and that is[\i] the proper spelling in her case.

Oh. Karen was being reported as the typo...
To quote a famous character on Saturday Night Live... "Never mind."

Not being able to edit your posts is a royal pain... A feature of posting as a Guest because the system cannot identify you/your posts. I just attempted to Register but 'Registration is not allowed on this board' so we cannot find out whether logging in enables post editing.

I agree that the guest-only feature is a pain. I've asked Dan who says he doesn't have admin access to the forum (no name or passwords) so we can't get in to modify any of that stuff. Would also be nice to be able to delete the spam soon after it shows up, but can't do that either. Would have to start a new forum in order to do any of that, not sure it's worth it for the few years(?) left. Any opinions? Thanks,
Not Wes

Wes seems to be the username - that is what his poosts show.
Might be worth trying the same password as used to update the SLT website, or the password Wes used on the wiki???

Obviously, Wes wanted a forum that was very low maintenance for him. The "old forum" still exists in an archive status on another host. Maybe this could be done with the "new forum". A third and "final forum" could be created with more than one person having administrative status to handle problems as they arise.

Yeah, Wes was the only Admin would be my guess, so unless they can track down his password the only way for Dan or Not Wes to get admin rights would be to talk to the hosting firm and convince them that they do represent Wes' estate and that Wes was the forum owner... easier said than done. Registration being turned off was deliberate on Wes' part; I had asked him about that way back when. He wanted as little effort required as possible in regard to maintaining the forum; given what all he was doing elsewhere, I can't say he was wrong in that.
In re the spam... to me it looks like just one person doing it, and they only swing by infrequently. It's easy to spot that it's not a real post before clicking on the thread. It's clear they realize that the likelihood of getting any traffic from here is low, but do it just on the off chance that they might get a click. So while annoying, it could be so much worse; in comparison to what some sites experience, this is nothing at all. That doesn't change that it would be nice to get the spam deleted... but there is no danger of this amount shutting the forum down, as has happened elsewhere.
