The first chapter of Plain Jane has been posted. There are 24 chapters.
RTF files, mobis, epubs, and PDFs are available from the Spearfish Lake Tales Store Plain Jane page. Sales on Lulu for hardcopies, epubs and PDFs have also been enabled.
Preorders have been shipped. If anyone preordered a book and didn't get it, please e-mail.
Very often when I put up a new story there are html bugs that don't show up when I tested it locally. I usually stay around until around midnight EST to deal with any of those issues that you bring to my attention, or to ship out orders that have come in.
Have fun reading Plain Jane!

Oops, the story got posted early because Dan will be tied up for a while this afternoon and evening. Responses might be slow on mail for a day or two because of that. Bear with us, please.

To Amanda, Dan and the family - thanks for all your efforts in keeping things going smoothly despite what must still be a trying and emotional time for you. -- howard

Having now finished Plain Jane I wish to say this was a more than fitting book for Wes to unfortunately bow out on, being the last book he fully edited. As usual it is a nice gentle look at life, people and places. Indeed my only real complaint (as with many of Wes' books) was that it ended too soon. Yes it was at a logical point of closure but...
I also was unconvinced by the premise behind it (at first). But as so often with his books it drew me in. Made me believe in it for a while.
Therefore and although I know Wes can't read this,
Thank You.
(Also, My thanks for those keeping his memory and his writings alive at this difficult time)

I have just started on Plain Jane but read almost every other story that Wes had posted. I cannot recall just when I started reading but it was many years ago.
I am just now having trouble reading Rob's discussions about WW2 and the actions in the Philippines. My dad was a Captain's Steward on HMAS Australia II and all those places and battles brought back memories of him. He never did speak of the War and of his role. Most of what we know has been from information he provided during psych evaluations trying to get a handle on his Dementia brought on by PTSD. That was what eventually took him out in Dec '99 aged 82.
What we have found out is enough to bring on the shudders, especially some of the stories from his Action Stations role at one of the Ack Ack installations. The 'Aussie was in a lot of crap for much of the War. It totalled 7 Kamikaze hits, a record equalled only by one other ship in the Battles, one from the US Navy I believe. The triple funnels, tilted, were instantly recognisable and as the Flagship for the that Task Force it took a beating in most actions. Whoever coined the phrase, "War is Hell," was just skirting at how awful it must have been.
Looking forward to following this great tale. I know it is going to be yet another success even though Wes isn't physically present to bask in the acclaim. Sigh.
A huge thank you to the Team working to continue his legacy and bring us the rest of his tales.

I purchased the ebook on 6/26 and still haven't received it. I also followed up with an email to spearfishlaketales@gmail.com. Can someone help direct me who to contact?

Can someone help direct me who to contact? I contacted Dan for you who does the book sends. He'll search this afternoon (a few hours) and you'll probably see it then. For the heck of it, check your spam folder and make sure it didn't end up there. I'd have sent a copy but don't have an address for you. Dan has that info. Sorry for the hassle, but sometimes things slip through the cracks (or into the spam bucket?). Thanks for your understanding. In the future, anyone not receiving their promised copies on the day of SLT site upload, (or the day after it at the latest) contact the spearfishlaketales@gmail.com and let Dan know there that it's gone missing, after checking your spam folder, of course! Those things are like vacuum cleaners. Not Wes

Thanks for getting that fixed! I wish I was always lucky enough, Boyd, to check for notes not long after they post. I'm on an erratic schedule like a lot of people and unable to check real often as Wes usually could. Timing was good this time, mostly luck. If you or anyone else has a problem in the future, check your spam folder first, and if a requested book is not there late on first chapter posting day, or at worst the next day sometime, e-mail the regular site mailbox and let Dan know. He keeps a fairly regular watch for a few days after initial upload for complaints, but after that is less diligent about checking for mail. Thanks, Not Wes

Plain Jane can no longer be read online? Has that become policy or just a slip up?

Sorry, folks, one of them there html glitches reared its ugly head. Actually, when putting together the new coming soon page, I grabbed old code for the Plain Jane portion of the main page. It should be fixed now. Refresh your caches if you have trouble getting in.
Thanks, Dimwit, for noticing and reporting quickly. If anyone sees others, let me know. Now I need to check some future pages. I won't be around for the actual Golden Hour Launch and need to make sure everything is right for Dan so we don't run into a problem like this one.
