Excellent links! I really enjoyed both of them.
I'm still of the opinion that Jimmy Clark was the best there's ever been.
Several times in recent weeks I've seen a Heiniken commercial where someone offers Jackie Stewart a beer; he turns it down with the words, "No thanks. I'm still driving." Responsible commercial, but wow, does he look old!
By the way, T.J. Wireman wasn't really based on any one person, except maybe a little bit on A.J. Foyt but way out of his time.
I still would like to know what happened to Vollstedt's 17 car that Mark Alderson tired to qualify at Indy in 1983, although I have to admit I haven't tried very hard to find out.

Wow, someone who agrees with me, and an American at that. Wonders will never cease.

Wes This might help a little in finding out what happened to and locating the #17 (67A Chassis) Vollstedt car. I located this blog link. The Australian owner goes by the name of trentesept in this blog. He is the 4th one down posting in this blog. Right below his entry is one by LittleFauss that gives more information. A little more info was posted further down in this blog by user Tracer77. If the information that I gleaned from this blog is correct, the 67A has been restored and rests in Australia. I failed in finding out the real name and location of the trentesept blogger. www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/vintage-sprint-car-pic-thread-1965-and-older-only-please.236178/page-494

I'm still of the opinion that Jimmy Clark was the best there's ever been. While Jimmy Clark was before my time, he does have some things in common with the driver I consider the best - Ayrton Senna . I do consider the two of them the two best drivers of all time - and wonder sometimes what they could have done if their lives had not been cut short by a fatal accident in their last race.

Jimmy Clark was definitely before my time, but Ayrton Senna and Mark Donohue were my top two, for "best of the best". All taken way too soon.
