I just received this message from a reader:
"Since migrating to Windows 10 the read chapters are not marked. Is this my problem or windows or what. It appears its a problem in Firefox. Works in Edge (which I don't like). Any input would be welcome."
Does anyone have any ideas?

With my old Opera browser I have 50 tab links open in six groups that vary from story chapters updated daily to some that haven't been updated in two years. If it has been more than a month since the last new chapter then I usually reread the last old chapter to catch back up on the story. The new Opera which now is based on the Chrome kernel won't let you stack and group tabs in that manner. I still use the old Opera browser ver. 12.17 as my on-line story reader and it has always highlighted read or unread links in red or blue and it stills does with Windows 10 if has been less than 2 weeks since the link was last opened. I just checked and the current Chrome and Firefox and Internet Explorer browsers all correctly color the old and new chapter links with Windows 10. I use Chrome as the default browser. I use Firefox mainly to listen nightly to wsmonline.com/listen-live/ since I am a big fan of country music and their evening DJ Eddie Stubbs. I check the Edge browser whenever it gets major updates and then say again, "Nope, not ready for prime time yet."

No problems here in Firefox, Chrome or Edge. As such I could just about tell you which computer/device I read each chapter on.

A Safari user here. I’ve found the chapters are marked “read” until I clear the browser history. At history reset the “read”status returns to unread.
Does the Windows browser have hidden setting? It may be as simple as deselecting browser history.
YMMV and all that....

I use Vivaldi which is based on the Chrome kernel and it shows the read chapters link as red as opposed to the unread which are black. The Vivaldi project is being run by the originator of Opera and has the capability of multiple nested tabs as well as so other features of the original Opera.

I've seen this behaviour in Firefox when the user has unintentionally set the browser to do either one of the following:
1. Open up each session in a Private Browsing mode,
2. Clear all cookies and data when the browser is closed.
In each case the result is the same by having the data of the pages visited being cleared when the browser is closed.
NB: If the problem is occurring whilst he has the browser open and moving from chapter to chapter in the same session he may need to check the browser settings for the colours used, because they may be customised to be using the same colour.

I started using Firefox as mentioned above years ago when my bank (credit union) started using a new system and I was having problems accessing it with Safari. Actually, it was a suggestion from Ernest Bywater which he probably doesn't remember making at the time. Thanks, Ernest! If I am reading multi-part stories, I check regularly for new chapters. Generally, I buy all of Wes' new books as a way of supporting his writing even if I have been a "beta reader" on some of them. Wes has some mighty books ahead for his readers.
