I just posted the first chapter of Out of the Cage. There are 27 chapters. RTF files, mobis, epubs, and PDFs are available from the Spearfish Lake Tales Store Out of the Cage page. Sales on Lulu for hardcopies, epubs and PDFs have also been enabled. Preorders have been shipped. Very often when I put up a new story there are html bugs that don't show up when I tested it locally. I will be around until around Midnight EDT to deal with any of those issues that you bring to my attention, or to ship out orders that have come in. Have fun reading Out of the Cage!

two glitches I noticed;
at least on the intro page, if you poke the "intro" button, you get a 404-error. Not even sure why I did, but..
Also, from the story page, there's only the old forum link.
Frenchie in a 7 month time-warp.. I certainly hadn't considered the weather!

I just finished a quick reading of your new book. I guess you can make a hero out of a heel, after all. Great job, as usual.

It only adds justice that Frenchcie must endure a Spearfish Lake winter day without proper clothes on his stroll home from jail!!

I have to say that Frenchy is about the last character I wanted to hear more about. Hopefully a good story is buried there! I guess Boyd gave us hint there.

Wes does have a talent for creating and developing characters that make you want to read his books. I admit I too was surprised to learn that the main character was Frenchy LeDroit, a foul mouth bully. In Bird in the Hand, he seemed unable to utter a sentence that didn't contain f**k or variations of it, often several times in a sentence. Wes' description of this story was on the mark. No one can accuse him of misleading his readers like they did in Redeye.

Speaking of Redeye, what happened to Homer? I assume he died, but since I am nearly his age, I hope he made it to Steve and Ann's wedding. When you get into your 80s and 90s you look forward to things like that.

To be honest, I don't know yet. There is a possibility of a follow-up story, but I haven't done anything about it. But he's still alive at the end of the book, when Steve picks up Melanie and Bobby.

I would have thought there'd be more than a single follow-up ...
I mean, yeah, a sequel to develop & close off various things brought into the story, but given Homer's back-story I would imagine a short series based on his earlier experiences would be do-able ? A link top & tail to the "present", but the majority from Homer's POV telling the tale ...

The link top & tail to the present approach was also the way Wes handled Forgotten Killer, so it would not be beyond the bounds of possibility.
I noticed an issue with the summary, as displayed on the store page, but not a problem on the Main pages. The formatting is squares for any non-basic alphabet characters - copyright symbols, apostrophes, and sometimes italic formatting, etc. It hits several of them: I checked Out of the Cage, Redeye, Down by the Riverside back through Bird on the Field. Perhaps there is a missing style-sheet or something of that nature?
