Of all Wes’ novels, I found Absent Friends the most touching and poignant. I was a year too young for the draft, but knew a good few who went. And while everyone I knew personally came back, not all came back the same way they left.

I agree. It ranks up near the top for me. Maybe that's why when I see stories of long lost veterans I feel compelled to mention them on the forum.
