So right now I'm on the hunt for a decent older machine (Win 7 or 8) that I can revamp to work as a "Writing" machine, but will retain the Win 10 machine as my new online unit. I've a working Win7 PC and Xerox WorkCentre XE88 Laser Printer/copier looking for a good home, as it happens, and just sent you an email concerning that.

So much for the email address from the Grynen... site. "mailbox is disabled" Um, if you are interested in the PC, I guess there is the old "find someone who has both our contact info" jazz, to relay a valid email without broadcasting it to the world... I suspect you aren't on Discord... NotWes knows how to contact me, it all else fails...

It sounds like Ken is interested in a machine that won't be connected to the internet, so this won't matter, but I've discovered in the last month that Microsoft has not turned off it's free upgrade offer of like 4 or 5 years ago from Win7 to Win10 if anyone is interested in upgrading an old machine for free. Save yourself $140US and just download and install Win10 overtop of Win7. It worked for me on January 14th, and for another friend two or three days later. No clue if it'll work across the border or not. If anyone is interested, let me know and I'll post instructions that worked for me and at least 3 others I know, likely lots of others I don't know, as I've been telling people to spread the word. I didn't think of broadcasting it here. It ain't gonna last forever. If you have a legit machine with Win7 on it, give it a try. Won't cost anything even if it doesn't work. I didn't even get asked for any credentials, IDs software keys or anything at all. I downloaded an exe file to a thumb drive, plugged it into the machine, double clicked the filename, and the download and install took about 4.5 hours. Could take longer than that so be prepared. It will require some monitoring as I got asked to accept the terms of service a couple times during the install procedure.
Again, let me know here and I'll post some directions. Good luck with it.

Thanks, but I asked around among my friends and now have a total of FIVE used Win 7 boxes to play with - hopefully one of them will work for me.
BTW, I have found that I can get upgrades for some of the mini-programs (or applications?) that I use in my writing and graphic work- unfortunately several of them are no longer available and those I have used up until now will only operate on the slow speeds of older machines -I could probably replace them with "new and improved" versions - unfortunately almost all of those that I used have multiple added personal or data files that only work on those particular applications. Those particular files contain essential names, dates and relationships of many of my characters that are used in one or more of my stories, so that are the main reason that I am trying to 'resurrect' a version of the old machine. On top of that I prefer to write on a machine that is totally isolated from the internet. So I'm sort of stuck with that set of programs - at least until I can do a data transfer of some sort.
(BTW, my password to the yahoo site no longer worked once the new company took over, so when they (FINALLY) sent around a notification that allowed me to send them an email directly, I told them to "delete and destroy all my files to prevent any further copyright infringement.)

Heh. Looks like I'm not the only one hoarding old PCs in the hopes someone will find a use for them...
