Just finished reading it, and the note from Wes at the end. Nanci is one of my favourite characters too. It seems such a shame that we probably won't hear how the Amber story ends, or for that matter, Mary and Matty from Full Sails. Mary is another amazing character from Wes' fertile mind.

I feel like it did after reading "To Sail Beyond the Sunset" by Robert Heinlein. The closing line was "And we all lived happily ever after." We love our characters. I envision them all preserved in amber, such that nothing interesting ever happens to them again, but that is just my own sadness at losing Wes.

Ed. Wes, in his own inimitable fashion, left a "hook" at the end of those tales with characters he was not finished with yet. Unlike yourgoodself I can't preserve them in amber and pretend nothing ever happens to them. I think young Matty, Mary and Amber in particular, had things to do yet. Like you, it is all part of my sadness at losing Wes.

Almost all of Wes's characters leave of as a "rest of the story" point. none of them are ever really "finished".
That was the "hook" that kept me coming back here for years.

I feel that this is true to life, it always evolves. My wife is researching our family history and has hit a stop at 1647, the other end is evolving with a grand son born april this year

1647, you say? Ah yes, the infamous Central European Black Hole of birth and death records - the 1600s - the period of the "Hundred Year War" and also the period when a multitude of church records were destroyed ... often by Churchmen of a different faith!
My family was Swedish and yet my sister traced our father's roots back to 1630 - but no further -

@norm, I agree that they all have things to do. Were they "real" their stories would go on. It's just bittersweet that we won't experience it with them.
