Wes, that may be a spoiler?

Yeah, I guess it is. That's what I get when I post while I'm getting ready to go to bed. I'd better put up the spoiler alert line.

Bree not only qualified to win a letter, she would have won a total of six, track and cross country. I just never thought to mention it. -- Wes I was think one for gliding, the others go without saying as they were part of established sports in the school. Dog sledding and gliding are not established sports.

You're right. But Tiffany never hid her sledding activities and there were many dog sledders in the vicinity while Bree and Mark and Jackie were the only sailplane pilots.

True, but that assumes that there are broken communications paths. Gravengood - McMahon friendship, McMahons - to daughter Tiffany, Tiffany (dogsledding) - Phil Wine, Phil to Wife Brandy, School Principle. And that assumes that at some time Phil, on a training or general fitness run for the dogs, didn't pass the airstrip at some time in ~5 years and see Bree at the airstrip. It also be unusual that at least a few teachers or coaches did not know what students get up to and mention in staff meetings about Bree's flying and ambitions. We know at least one coach, ok a volunteer coach, knew. We also know that Bree took time off school to go gliding, presumably she or the Gravengoods would have had to give a reason.

Andy, Boyd, We dont have to meet and speak to our friends every day to appreciate them. They're just there. I have mates I don't talk to but once year.
What does amaze me is how Wes has kept the Spearfish Lake "world" (in the story-telling sense) intact over so many stories and generations. So they're all friends, just waiting to pop up and greet us at Wes's whim : )

In the book Bird in the Hand, Frenchy had bought some illegal beer at the Three Pines Reservation and hid it in an unused shed. Howie had noticed him doing it and later removed the beer to a location down by the river. Where's the beer?
Norm, I agree with your sentiments wholeheartedly.

Hmmm, that didn't work like I thought. What i was going to say Boyd, I wondered about that little plot hole but thought I just missed something. It's one of the few tales I haven't read multiple times. Guess a re-read is in order Norm

Norm, you might want to read Bird in the Hand, chapters 35-39. Chapter 39 tells where Howie hid the beer. Very clever of him. Maybe it's still there.

That's odd, Boyd, I don't remember Tiffany winning the Iditarod, just participating.
I have to agree with some of the others that J/J was not really for me, I like this type much better. At the same time trying something different shows that the old noggin' is still working well. Trying something new helps to guide your style along different pathways.

Quick question: In Birdwatcher Hill Fire, Jackie says to Becca about not giving her 14-year-old sister a heart attack. In Reaching for Wings, it's clear that Bree is now 15. I take it her birthday's sometime in September?

Oh, cripe. I missed that. These books haven't been written in order and sometimes little fit things like that happen.

In Starting Late Jackie Gravengood is 55 (Chapter 1) and in Stray Kitten 6 months later at the Christmas Party the Gravengood's are nearing 60 (Chapter 22)

Wes, it looks like you're catching it from every direction. A man ain't got a chance. The Wiki indicates that the next book is a Bradford story so while it is running, you can always go back and fix any faux pas in Spearfish Lake.
